Roland has unveiled Melody Flip, its first foray into generative AI, designed to inspire musicians with innovative melodic ideas. Acknowledging skepticism around generative AI in music, Roland emphasizes that Melody Flip serves as a creative partner, enhancing the artistic process rather than replacing it. The software analyzes uploaded audio to reveal its “musical DNA,” including key, BPM, and genre, and then suggests new melodies and chord progressions from a curated library of around 300 styles. Users can edit these suggestions, treating Melody Flip as an active collaborator. This versatile tool generates not only melodies but also bass and drum parts, exportable as both audio and MIDI files for use in any DAW. Compatible with both Mac and PC, Melody Flip will be available via Roland Cloud, with a free trial set for May. This innovative step reflects Roland’s commitment to merging technology with human creativity in music production.
