Meta AI App Introduces User Alerts for Shared Prompts

Meta has updated its Meta AI app following concerns about user privacy. Initially, users could easily share their chat conversations publicly, leading to unintended disclosures of sensitive information like medical records and personal details. In response, Meta now displays a warning when users attempt to share chat messages, advising them that their prompts are public and may be visible across other Meta apps, emphasizing the need to avoid sharing personal data. The app, launched in April, includes a “Discover” feed intended to inspire users by showcasing popular prompts and responses. However, many users misunderstood its functionality, leading to widespread oversharing. Meta’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, claimed the AI platform has over one billion monthly active users, but this mishap may damage trust in the app’s privacy measures.
