Meta Asserts No Ongoing Chinese Ownership in Manus AI Following $2 Billion Investment to Enhance AI Capabilities

Meta has announced the acquisition of Manus, an artificial intelligence startup, as part of its ongoing strategy to enhance AI capabilities across its platforms, including Facebook and Instagram. While financial details were not disclosed, reports suggest the deal exceeded $2 billion. Based in Singapore, Manus launched a “general-purpose” AI agent earlier this year, offering paid subscriptions for tasks like research and coding. Meta aims to integrate Manus’ technology into its consumer and business products, particularly Meta AI. Manus’ CEO, Xiao Hong, stated the platform will maintain its operations and subscription services independently. The startup has seen rapid growth, achieving over $100 million in annual recurring revenue within eight months. Meta confirmed the cessation of any Chinese ownership interests in Manus and its operations in China. This acquisition aligns with CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s efforts to bolster Meta’s competitive position against rivals like Google and OpenAI.
