Meta Attracts OpenAI Talent Despite Sam Altman’s Assurance of Team Stability

Meta is aggressively pursuing its artificial intelligence initiatives, intensifying efforts to hire researchers from rival OpenAI. Recently, Meta has recruited notable AI scientists like Lucas Beyer, Alexander Kolesnikov, and Xiaohua Zhai from OpenAI’s Zurich office, along with key figure Trapit Bansal. This wave of talent acquisitions has raised eyebrows due to claims from OpenAI CEO Sam Altman that Meta offered signing bonuses up to $100 million to attract top talent. In response, Meta’s Chief Technology Officer Andrew Bosworth refuted these claims, emphasizing that such figures were misleading and that only a few senior roles might warrant substantial packages. Notably, the recruits confirmed their move to Meta but dismissed the $100 million rumor as “fake news.” Given the mixed reception of Meta’s recent Llama 4 AI models, these strategic hires may help bolster the company’s AI credibility and performance as CEO Mark Zuckerberg actively seeks to enhance Meta’s talent pool.
