Meta Introduces Enhanced Safety Tools and Campaigns to Safeguard Seniors Against Online Scams

Meta is enhancing online safety for senior citizens with new tools and initiatives aimed at combatting scams and fraud. Key features include real-time scam alerts on WhatsApp during video calls with unknown contacts and an AI-powered scam detection tool in Messenger to flag suspicious conversations. Additionally, Meta is improving security across its platforms with Passkeys for secure logins via fingerprints or facial recognition, and Security Checkup on Facebook and Instagram to help users manage their privacy settings. In India, the ‘Scams Se Bacho’ campaign, in partnership with the Department of Telecommunications, offers multilingual videos and training sessions to educate seniors on online safety. Meta’s global crackdown on scams has led to over 8 million blocked scam accounts and 21,000 fake customer service pages this year. Users, particularly seniors, are urged to verify contacts and avoid sharing personal information. These efforts reflect Meta’s commitment to a safer digital environment.
