Meta Sues AI Company Behind ‘Nudify’ Apps for Ad Violations on Facebook and Instagram

Share

Meta has filed a lawsuit against Hong Kong-based Joy Timeline HK Limited, the developer of ‘nudify’ apps, aiming to curb the unauthorized generation of sexually explicit images. In its effort to protect users, Meta claims the company has previously attempted to bypass the ad review process on its platforms. The tech giant has also enhanced its AI systems to swiftly detect and remove ads for these apps, expanding keywords and emojis related to safety in their monitoring. This action is part of a wider response to the rising prevalence of AI-driven nudification tools. The lawsuit follows the signing of the Take It Down Act, which criminalizes sharing explicit images without consent, encompassing both real and AI-generated content. Additionally, Meta has removed networks promoting such ads and is sharing URLs with other tech companies to aid in removing related content, while advocating for age verification legislation in app stores to protect minors.
