Meta Under Fire for AI Prompt Transparency Issues

Meta’s AI assistant may inadvertently share user prompts, including sensitive personal data, as reported by CPO Magazine. A recent update introduced a warning that user inputs could be publicly shared via the app’s “Discover” feed, raising privacy alarms since the default setting for this feature enables sharing unless manually disabled. This has sparked concerns among generative AI users, with 36% worried about potential misuse of their information, according to the PYMNTS Intelligence report.

Additionally, Meta might have exploited an Android vulnerability, dubbed “Local Mess,” allowing it to track web activity even in incognito mode. This exploit seemingly assisted Meta and Yandex in harvesting user behavior across platforms, which could link back to user accounts. This data handling has heightened the risk of regulatory scrutiny in the EU. Controversy surrounding Meta’s privacy practices is compounded by an ongoing $8 billion lawsuit for alleged data misuse.
