Meta Unveils AI Tools to Tackle Online Scams on WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook

Meta has unveiled advanced AI tools across Facebook, Messenger, and WhatsApp to combat scams and impersonation. The AI analyzes text, images, and context to detect deceptive behavior, such as impersonating celebrities or brands. For Facebook, new alerts will warn users of suspicious friend requests tied to accounts with limited mutual friends or unusual location details. WhatsApp users will also receive notifications when linking their accounts to potentially fraudulent devices. Additionally, Messenger’s scam detection is expanding globally, alerting users to common scams during chats. Meta aims to enhance safety by implementing mandatory advertiser verifications, targeting 90% of ad revenue from verified sources by 2026. This initiative follows the removal of over 159 million scam ads and nearly 11 million accounts linked to fraudulent activity. Committed to protecting users, Meta continues to collaborate with industry partners and law enforcement worldwide to disrupt sophisticated scams.
