Meta Unveils AI ‘World Model’ to Propel Robotics and Self-Driving Technologies

admin

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta Platforms, has emphasized artificial intelligence (AI) as a key focus as competition heats up with OpenAI, Microsoft, and Google. Recently, Meta debuted its new open-source AI model, V-JEPA 2, designed to comprehend 3D environments and the movement of physical objects. This “world model” creates an internal simulation of reality, enabling AI to learn and make human-like decisions. For instance, it can predict that a ball rolling off a table will fall. Meta plans to invest $14 billion in AI firm Scale AI and hire its CEO, Alexandr Wang, to enhance its AI capabilities. Applications for V-JEPA 2 include delivery robots and self-driving cars that require real-time environmental understanding. Yann LeCun, Meta’s chief AI scientist, described this model as an abstract digital twin of reality, crucial for planning actions based on consequence predictions. Other companies, like Google’s DeepMind, are also working on similar technologies.
