Meta is enhancing its internal reliance on Google’s AI while investing billions in its own technology. As part of this integration, Google’s Gemini has significantly entered Meta’s workflow. Key changes include the adoption of Google Chat as Meta’s primary internal chat service and the introduction of NotebookLM Pro, Google’s AI research assistant. This shift, announced in September, signals Meta’s focus on making AI central to its operations.
Despite developing its own AI tools, such as the productivity bot Metamate, Meta is integrating Google’s products to streamline processes. Notably, the internal Workplace service, akin to Facebook, will cease operations by June 2025.
Meta’s move highlights doubts about its internal AI capabilities, especially after the company shifted priorities from metaverse ambitions to generative AI advancements. With multimillion-dollar salaries offered to attract talent, Meta is pursuing greater digital intelligence, including the development of a successor to its Llama model.
