Microsoft Expands Windows’ ‘AI Actions’ Feature to Third-Party Applications

Microsoft is expanding its right-click menu in Windows File Explorer by adding “AI actions,” making the feature accessible to all Windows 11 users. These enhancements are part of the company’s vision for an “AI PC.” Users will now find options like Background Removal and Object Erase, with functionalities tied to apps like Manus, Filmora, and Zoom, even though Microsoft doesn’t own these services. Manus serves as an AI alternative for deep research and website building, while Filmora caters to video editing needs. Users can initiate file editing directly within File Explorer and create websites using a document with Manus. Notably, Zoom integration allows users to schedule meetings by highlighting email addresses; however, this feature is exclusive to Copilot+ PCs. While Microsoft hasn’t fully showcased these AI actions, their private preview suggests a significant shift towards integrating AI seamlessly within Windows. This initiative emphasizes the evolution of File Explorer, catering to modern user needs.
