Microsoft Introduces Framework for Developing Autonomous AI Applications

Microsoft has launched the Microsoft Agent Framework, an open-source SDK and runtime enabling developers to create and deploy AI agents and multi-agent workflows. Released on October 1 and available on GitHub, this framework is optimized for both .NET and Python environments. Developers can build simple chat agents or complex workflows using graph-based orchestration. Local experimentation is supported before deployment to the Azure AI Foundry, ensuring observability, durability, and compliance. The framework integrates seamlessly with Azure AI Foundry, Microsoft 365 Copilot, and other platforms to support multi-agent systems. It builds on innovations from the Semantic Kernel and AutoGen projects, enabling a smooth transition for current users. Key features include the Model Context Protocol (MCP), Agent2Agent (A2A) protocol, and an OpenAPI-first design, along with a cloud-agnostic runtime. This advancement empowers robust AI application development and orchestration capabilities for developers.
