Microsoft (MSFT) has initiated testing of its own artificial intelligence (AI) models called MAI-Voice-1 and MAI-1-preview, aiming to compete with OpenAI while reducing dependence on it. Announced by CEO Mustafa Suleyman, MAI-Voice-1 is a rapid speech-generation model, capable of producing audio in under a second. The MAI-1-preview is Microsoft’s first fully in-house language model, trained on 15,000 Nvidia GPUs, and is now available for public testing on the LMArena platform. Microsoft has integrated MAI-Voice-1 into products like Copilot Daily, enhancing consumer-friendly AI functionalities. The company’s $13 billion investment in OpenAI and recent tensions over partnerships have prompted this push for internal expertise. On financial platforms like TipRanks, MSFT stock holds a Strong Buy consensus, indicating a promising future with an average price target of $624.08, reflecting a 22.5% upside potential. Microsoft’s strategic move positions it as a key player in the evolving AI landscape.
