Microsoft Office Apps Introduce Free Copilot Chat Features

Microsoft is enhancing its Office apps—Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OneNote—by integrating the free Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat and agents for all Microsoft 365 business users. This new feature introduces a Copilot Chat sidebar, enabling users to draft documents and analyze spreadsheets seamlessly, all without requiring an additional Copilot license. According to Seth Patton, GM of Microsoft 365 Copilot product marketing, the AI chat is content-aware, tailoring responses based on the active document. While the free version supports document rewriting and slide creation, the $30 monthly Microsoft 365 Copilot license remains the top choice for advanced integration. Licensed users enjoy additional features, including file uploads and enhanced AI capabilities like GPT-5, ensuring faster response times even during peak hours. Microsoft is not adjusting subscription prices for business users and is set to bundle sales, service, and finance Copilots into the subscription by October, offering potential savings for businesses.
