A recent study by Microsoft Corporation highlights the potential impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on various jobs, particularly in knowledge work and communication-heavy fields. Occupations such as translators, writers, journalists, and data scientists are most vulnerable to AI disruption. The research identified 40 roles at risk, using nine months of Bing Copilot interactions to calculate an “AI applicability score” based on tasks like information gathering and drafting.
Conversely, jobs requiring physical labor or direct human interaction, such as nursing assistants and massage therapists, are considered least affected by AI. While AI may augment tasks in knowledge professions, leading to potential wage increases, no occupations were found that AI could completely replace. The findings indicate that AI will likely assist rather than fully automate jobs, emphasizing the need for workers and employers to adapt to this evolving landscape.
