MIT Startup Launches AI App to Empower Police in Crime Prevention

Multitude Insights has developed innovative software that utilizes artificial intelligence to enhance law enforcement’s crime reporting capabilities. This platform enables agencies to generate digital bulletins, analyzing multiple publicly available reports across various jurisdictions. The AI identifies patterns—such as similar vehicles or break-in techniques—and links related crimes, alerting officers accordingly. For example, it has successfully connected domestic terrorism-related incidents and a credit card scam in California. The user-friendly interface allows officers to create detailed bulletins quickly, while facilitating collaboration through comments and tips from colleagues. With a focus on building a searchable database, the software aims to tackle the information overload seen in traditional paper systems. Multitude’s approach notably avoids controversial facial recognition technology, which remains under scrutiny for bias. The team, led by Matt White and backed by over $5 million in funding, is committed to transforming law enforcement processes for better efficiency and effectiveness.
