Molotov Cocktail Attack Targets Sam Altman’s San Francisco Residence

San Francisco police are investigating a fire caused by a Molotov cocktail at OpenAI CEO Sam Altman’s home. The incident occurred overnight on Friday, near Jones and Leavenworth streets, where authorities found evidence of an incendiary device after firefighters reported a self-extinguished blaze. There were no injuries, and it’s unclear if Altman was home during the incident. OpenAI expressed gratitude for the swift response from the SFPD, emphasizing employee safety.

Additionally, the same suspect, a 20-year-old man, was later arrested for threatening to burn down another building on 3rd Street shortly after the home attack. He is currently in custody with charges pending. OpenAI’s headquarters is located in San Francisco’s Mission Bay neighborhood. The company is also revising its contract with the Pentagon to address concerns about potential surveillance of Americans, as stated by Altman.
