Amazon’s upgraded digital assistant, Alexa+, powered by generative AI, is in the process of rolling out invites through a waitlist, currently reaching over a million users. Announced in February, Alexa+ is not yet publicly available but offers more natural interactions, enhanced smart home integration, and personalized features. Currently, it is free during Early Access, set to remain free for Prime members, while non-Prime users will pay $19.99 monthly post-launch. Alexa+ allows for more natural language commands, improved routine creation, and personalized preferences. Its generative AI capabilities enable it to summarize emails, craft unique bedtime stories, and assist with tasks like booking reservations or purchasing tickets. Though users report mixed experiences—some praising its advancements over Siri while others find it rough—Amazon claims nearly 90% of the announced features have been deployed. Alexa+ will initially be available on select Echo devices, with plans to expand to more devices over time.
