Elon Musk has threatened legal action against Apple, alleging that it has made competition with OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, impossible for other apps on its App Store. This conflict highlights the ongoing rivalry between Musk and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, which has intensified since Musk’s departure from the firm. Musk further criticized Apple for not promoting his social media platform, X, or his AI app Grok, in the “Must Have” section, despite claiming that X is the top news app globally. Altman responded by suggesting Musk had manipulated post visibility on X. The feud, rooted in differing visions for OpenAI, has included lawsuits and claims of self-serving agendas. Musk initially sued OpenAI, arguing it veered from its original non-profit mission to prioritize profit, especially benefitting major investor Microsoft. Though he retracted his lawsuit, OpenAI then counter-sued, accusing Musk of bad faith tactics to hinder its progress.
