ReNika Moore, director of the ACLU Racial Justice Program, criticized the lack of explanation regarding how other agencies could uphold educational access requirements. Additionally, the plan fails to address the necessary administration of vital funding programs that support diverse student needs, including those with disabilities and English learners. ACLU senior policy counsel, Kimberly Conway, emphasized the potential harm to millions of students due to this restructuring. The ACLU urges Congress to intervene, safeguarding civil rights and maintaining the department’s pivotal role in ensuring equitable educational opportunities for all students.
