OpenAI and Oracle have partnered on Project Jupiter, a $165 billion data center initiative in Santa Teresa, New Mexico, as part of OpenAI’s Stargate Project, which aims to invest half a trillion dollars in AI infrastructure this decade. The project, designed to enhance artificial intelligence capabilities, is expected to create thousands of jobs and contribute significantly to the regional economy. OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, emphasized the necessity of robust computing infrastructure for AI advancements.
The Doña Ana County Board of Commissioners approved local incentives for Project Jupiter, facilitating its development. The data center will utilize a closed-loop water cooling system and a natural gas-based microgrid for energy, intending to transition to renewable energy by 2045. Community engagement highlighted strong public support for the project, which promises to enhance local infrastructure and job opportunities. This investment is a crucial step towards positioning New Mexico as a leader in AI technology and data management.
