OpenAI has revamped ChatGPT’s response strategy, effective August 2025, to enhance responsible AI usage. The chatbot will no longer provide direct answers to questions about emotional distress, mental health, or significant personal decisions. This decision stems from concerns that users were relying on ChatGPT for emotional support during uncertain times. Instead of giving advice, ChatGPT will offer reflective prompts to help users consider their situations without making decisions for them. Additionally, new interface features will include reminders to take breaks during long sessions, encouraging healthier usage patterns. This change is informed by input from over 90 physicians across 30 countries, aimed at ensuring that ChatGPT navigates sensitive topics with care. As AI continues to evolve, OpenAI’s strategy emphasizes guiding users toward clarity rather than fostering dependency, highlighting a commitment to maintaining trust and accountability in vulnerable moments.
