This AI-driven tool offers a slick, social media-style feed but raises significant copyright concerns. According to The Wall Street Journal, characters can appear in Sora-generated videos unless rights holders proactively opt out, although Disney has already done so. During testing, I was able to generate clips featuring characters from “Family Guy” and “South Park,” while notable figures like Batman were blocked. This highlights the inconsistent application of copyright protections across intellectual property (IP). While individuals have control over their likenesses through the new “cameo” feature, fictional characters lack similar safeguards, making them vulnerable. OpenAI’s approach to IP raises legal questions and puts Hollywood’s valuable franchises at risk. With competitors like Google’s Veo 3 emerging, the pressure is on for content creators to engage in proactive copyright protection.
