Announced by Director of Education Daisy Christodoulou, the tool aids teachers in evaluating how students balance narrative and analytical aspects in historical writing. Aimed at Year 7 students, the assessment poses the question, “Why did William win the Battle of Hastings?” and utilizes Comparative Judgment (CJ), where teachers assess pieces of writing against one another rather than assigning fixed scores. This method has been implemented in over 2,000 schools across the UK, US, and Australia, evaluating over a million writings. Christodoulou critiques traditional marking schemes for their rigidity, advocating for a holistic approach to assessment. CJ History aims to enhance this by integrating AI to cut grading time by 90% while still ensuring quality, potentially transforming history evaluations in educational settings.
