A recent AI model suggests that the supermassive black hole at the center of our galaxy, Sagittarius A, is spinning at near "top speed." This model was trained on complex, previously discarded telescope data, aiming to create detailed images of the black hole. Despite its promise, the model faces skepticism from some experts, like Nobel laureate Reinhard Genzel, who caution that the data’s questionable quality may skew results. An international team utilized data from the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT), which operates through a network of global instruments and can struggle with atmospheric interference. The AI’s output revealed new structural features of Sagittarius A, including its rapid spin and alignment toward Earth. These findings could enhance understanding of radiation behavior around supermassive black holes. However, experts advise caution, noting potential biases due to the low-quality data.
