Nokia and Google Cloud Unveil AI-Driven Agents for Telecom Network APIs

Google Cloud and Nokia are collaborating to introduce agent-based AI for automating telecom networks through programmable network APIs. Traditionally reliant on scripts and manual rules, telecom infrastructure is evolving with this partnership, as software agents can now respond to overarching goals rather than executing detailed commands. The integration of AI into Nokia’s Network as Code platform allows developers to create applications that interact seamlessly with network features, such as connectivity quality and network slicing.

This innovation enhances development efficiency, allowing AI agents to interpret instructions and autonomously select suitable network functions, minimizing manual API calls. This automation is crucial as telecom networks rapidly become more complex due to 5G, edge computing, and an increasing number of connected devices. Despite the potential benefits, operators face challenges regarding reliability, security, and interoperability that must be addressed before widespread adoption can occur. Industry frameworks, like those from GSMA, aim to support this momentum in network automation and API usage.
