Nvidia-Backed PolyAI Secures $86M to Develop Highly Human-Like AI Voice Agents — TFN

PolyAI, a London-based startup, is revolutionizing customer service by making automated phone interactions feel more natural. Recently, it raised $86 million in a Series D funding round co-led by Georgian, Hedosophia, and Khosla Ventures, with contributions from Nvidia’s NVentures and others. Founded in 2017 by Nikola Mrkšić, Shawn Wen, and Pei-Hao Su from Cambridge’s Machine Intelligence Lab, PolyAI aims for every large enterprise call center to be powered by AI agents that match human operators in capability and personality.

The company’s voice-first conversational agents excel in complex, multi-turn dialogues, handling diverse accents and completing tasks like bookings and payments—far surpassing traditional IVR systems. Unlike broader platforms such as Five9 and Genesys, PolyAI specializes in high-quality voice interactions. The new funding will help expand its technology and client base across North America and Europe, targeting sectors like logistics, hospitality, finance, and retail.
