The AinaFarm project at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, focused on agriculture and artificial intelligence (AI), has received support from the NVIDIA Academic Grant Program, which provides advanced computing hardware. Led by Assistant Professor Huaijin Chen, the project collaborates with Professors Daniel Jenkins and Mohsen Paryavi to explore robotics and AI applications in farming, utilizing vision-language-action (VLA) models. NVIDIA’s contribution includes two RTX PRO 6000 GPUs and four Jetson AGX Orin supercomputers, equipping farm robots with AI capabilities for real-world agricultural tasks. Chen emphasizes the project’s goal of developing practical AI tools to alleviate labor challenges and enhance Hawaiian agriculture. Additionally, this initiative fosters interdisciplinary collaboration among various UH Mānoa colleges, building on the university’s achievements, such as winning the 2025 Farm Robotics Challenge. The NVIDIA program aims to accelerate academic research by providing essential resources, promoting the transition of innovative concepts into viable agricultural technologies.
