Nvidia Shares Surge as Huang Unveils $100 Billion OpenAI Investment, Calling it the ‘Largest AI Infrastructure Project Ever’

Nvidia (NVDA) stock surged about 4% following the announcement of a monumental partnership with OpenAI, involving an investment of up to $100 billion. This collaboration aims to deploy a staggering “at least 10 gigawatts” of compute capacity through Nvidia’s AI systems, enabling OpenAI to enhance its next-generation AI models. The first phase, leveraging Nvidia’s cutting-edge Vera Rubin platform, is expected to launch in late 2026. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang highlighted the partnership as “the biggest AI infrastructure project in history.” In contrast, Meta’s AI data center under construction in Louisiana will deliver around two gigawatts, emphasizing the scale of Nvidia and OpenAI’s initiative. Amid other significant investments, Nvidia recently took a $5 billion stake in Intel and announced a $6.3 billion deal with CoreWeave. Analysts express concerns about OpenAI’s sustainability and call for broader investment participation in its ambitious projects. Nvidia’s stock approaches its record high, signaling robust market confidence.
