NVIDIA Unveils Alpamayo Open AI Models to Propel Safe Autonomous Driving Forward

At CES 2026, NVIDIA launched the Alpamayo family of open-source AI models, simulation tools, and datasets aimed at advancing safe autonomous vehicle (AV) development. The Alpamayo portfolio encompasses Alpamayo 1, AlpaSim, and Physical AI Open Datasets, enabling vehicles to navigate with humanlike judgment. This innovative suite allows developers to refine models for enhanced safety, robustness, and scalability, essential for level 4 AV deployment. Mobility leaders like JLR, Lucid, and Uber are set to utilize Alpamayo, addressing unique driving conditions and rare scenarios, known as the “long tail.” By integrating reasoning-based vision language action (VLA) models, Alpamayo enhances decision-making through systematic logic, thereby boosting driving performance and fostering trust in intelligent vehicles. All systems are supported by the NVIDIA Halos safety framework, ensuring reliable and transparent deployment. This comprehensive approach positions Alpamayo as a significant catalyst for the future of autonomous vehicle technology.
