Ohio Introduces AI Chatbot App to Combat Crime and Terrorism

Ohio has launched an innovative public safety initiative using the multi-lingual chatbot app, Safeguard Ohio, empowering citizens to report suspicious activity easily. The tool allows users to submit video, audio, and photos, with artificial intelligence guiding them through the reporting process by asking essential follow-up questions. Categories for reporting include drug-related crimes, human trafficking, terrorism, and threats to schools and children. Since its launch on August 6, reported tips have tripled due to its user-friendly interface, particularly appealing to younger demographics. Ohio Homeland Security emphasizes that while reports can be made anonymously, emergency situations should still be directed to 911. The app, developed by Vigiliti at a cost of $200,000, was designed to enhance public engagement and improve the reporting process while providing 24/7 technical support. This initiative reinforces the safety mantra, “if you see something, say something.”
