OpenAI has acquired Software Applications Incorporated, the start-up behind ‘Sky’, a natural language interface for Mac computers. Although financial details were undisclosed, the acquisition was led by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and key executives including Fidji Simo and Nick Turley. Founded in 2023, Sky facilitates tasks like writing and coding, allowing users to prompt the interface for automated actions on their Macs. Turley emphasized that this integration enhances ChatGPT’s functionality, enabling it to assist users more effectively. Co-founder Ari Weinstein expressed excitement about joining OpenAI to make computing more empowering and intuitive. The acquisition aligns with OpenAI’s rapid expansion, which includes launching a ChatGPT-powered browser, exploring new social media avenues, and plans to invest over $1 trillion in AI technology over the next decade.
