OpenAI has announced the construction of a new Stargate campus in Michigan, partnering with Oracle to achieve over 1 gigawatt of energy capacity. This initiative is part of a broader project aiming for more than 8 gigawatts and $450 billion in investments, positioning OpenAI closer to its ambitious goal of $500 billion in revenue and 10 gigawatts of capacity. Set to begin in early 2026, the construction will create over 2,500 jobs, utilizing an innovative closed cooling system that minimizes water use. DTE Energy will supply energy through surplus transmission, ensuring local supplies remain unaffected. The Stargate campuses nationwide—including sites in Texas, New Mexico, Wisconsin, and Ohio—are designed to stimulate local economies by investing in advanced energy and industrial systems. OpenAI aims to leverage these developments to enhance healthcare, public services, and overall societal benefits, reinforcing Michigan’s rich engineering heritage while driving AI infrastructure improvements.
