OpenAI CEO Sam Altman recently met UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi, focusing on enhancing collaboration in artificial intelligence (AI) research. This meeting, reported by UAE state media agency WAM, aligns OpenAI’s initiatives with the UAE’s ambitious plans to establish a robust AI ecosystem, aimed at fostering a knowledge-based economy and enhancing global standing in AI. Altman received the first honorary doctorate from the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI), recognizing his significant contributions to AI innovation. The UAE is committed to reducing oil dependency by investing heavily in AI development, promoting local research, and establishing public-private partnerships. A key project includes developing one of the world’s largest AI data centers to support industry growth. Additionally, the UAE is dedicated to modernizing the Arabic language through AI-driven tools. Strengthening international ties, the UAE announced a joint AI campus with the US, emphasizing technological and diplomatic cooperation.
