OpenAI CEO Sam Altman Prevails in Dismissal of Sister’s Abuse Allegations: A Timeline from 2025 Lawsuit to 2026 Ruling

A federal judge has dismissed a lawsuit against OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, filed by his sister Ann Altman, who accused him of childhood sexual abuse. US District Judge Zachary Bluestone deemed the claims “untimely” due to the long passage of time since the alleged incidents, which reportedly took place in Missouri during the late 1990s and early 2000s. Ann Altman alleged that the abuse began when she was three and lasted until she was around eleven. Seeking $75,000 in damages for severe emotional distress and PTSD, Ann’s complaint spurred Sam Altman to countersue for defamation, arguing her allegations were false and damaging to his reputation. Judge Bluestone noted that while Ann’s claims of sexual assault have expired under statute, she can amend her complaint under Missouri’s Childhood Sexual Abuse statute. As the case evolves, it highlights ongoing legal and familial tensions within the Altman family.
