OpenAI CEO Sam Altman assured SoftBank founder Masayoshi Son that the demand for artificial intelligence (AI) will surge in the near future. Speaking at SoftBank World via teleconference, Altman emphasized the importance of expanding computing capacity to meet this growing need. Both leaders discussed how advancing AI will create unprecedented job opportunities and enable a “self-improvement” loop in robotics. Altman addressed concerns about potential slow returns from AI expansion, stating that lowering AI costs would increase usage significantly. He explained that innovative technologies and construction are essential for scaling beyond current limits. Additionally, Altman and Son explored ideas of robots building robots and independent AI agents enhancing productivity. SoftBank plans to deploy a billion AI agents and invest $3 billion annually to integrate OpenAI’s tools, following a recent 50-50 joint venture to launch Cristal Intelligence in Japan. Meanwhile, SoftBank shares surged 38% due to investor optimism.
