OpenAI Chairman Bret Taylor Set to Acquire Stake in 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers are welcoming Bret Taylor, OpenAI chair and Sierra CEO, as a limited partner, acquiring 1% of the franchise at a valuation exceeding $9 billion. This marks Taylor as the fifth notable tech entrepreneur to invest in the 49ers this year. Recently, Fortress Investment Group’s Pete Briger Jr. purchased 3.2%, while Vinod Khosla, Byron Deeter, and Will Griffith collectively acquired 6.2% of the team, previously valued at $8.6 billion. Taylor’s investment is pending approval at the upcoming owners’ meeting. Despite these new partnerships, 49ers owner Jed York retains majority control, holding nearly 90% of the franchise. Taylor, with over two decades in tech roles, including co-CEO at Salesforce and chairman of Twitter, is currently developing AI-driven customer service tools at Sierra, a company valued at $10 billion. This strategic move enhances the 49ers’ reputation among elite investors in the tech industry.
