OpenAI Co-founder Sam Altman Launches New Startup to Compete with Neuralink

A new venture is targeting a $250 million investment from OpenAI and other investors, with discussions still in early stages. While CEO Sam Altman will not personally invest, this enterprise will compete with Neuralink, a brain-computer interface founded by Elon Musk in 2016. Musk and Altman, who co-founded OpenAI, became rivals after Musk left the board in 2018. Musk’s own AI start-up, xAI, launched in 2023, is focused on contesting OpenAI’s shift from a nonprofit. Neuralink raised $650 million this year at a $9 billion valuation, backed by prominent investors like Sequoia Capital. The evolution of brain implants, boosted by recent AI advancements, presents significant growth opportunities. Altman also supports various projects, including the nuclear initiatives Oklo and Helion, while OpenAI, valued at $300 billion, has not issued a comment regarding the new venture. This landscape highlights intense competition in the AI and neurotechnology sectors.
