OpenAI is expanding its footprint in India’s higher education market through partnerships with six prominent institutions, including IIT Delhi and IIMA. This initiative aims to equip over 100,000 students, faculty, and staff with AI skills, aligning with India’s objective to enhance its AI capabilities. The focus is on integrating AI into core academic functions, rather than consumer use, to influence how AI is taught and regulated. This move coincides with the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi and follows Microsoft’s expansion of its Elevate program in India. OpenAI will provide access to ChatGPT Edu tools, instructor training, and responsible use frameworks, emphasizing AI’s role in coding, research, and analytics. Additionally, certifications will be launched with institutions like IIMA and MAHE. Collaborations with platforms like PhysicsWallah and upGrad aim to extend AI education beyond campuses, addressing the rapid shifts in skill demands in the economy.
