OpenAI is advancing its vision of transforming ChatGPT into an ‘everything app’ with recent launches and features. Last month, it introduced the Sora 2 video generation model and an AI video app. This month, the launch of the ‘Apps SDK’ empowers developers to create specialized AI apps within ChatGPT, competing with Apple’s App Store and Google’s Play Store. OpenAI is also testing a direct messaging (DM) feature in ChatGPT, codenamed “Calpico,” allowing users to collaborate on projects like brainstorming and image creation without sharing personal memories, ensuring privacy. The feature, discovered by Lead Engineer Tibor Blaho, may include invite links for group chats, but its security level, including end-to-end encryption, remains uncertain. Privacy concerns linger due to prior incidents where users’ chats became publicly accessible. Moving forward, the focus on user privacy will be crucial as OpenAI continues to expand ChatGPT’s capabilities in the competitive AI landscape.
