OpenAI recently launched ChatGPT Atlas, an innovative AI-powered browser designed to challenge Google Chrome’s market dominance. Following the announcement, Alphabet (GOOG) shares fell by 1.6%. Atlas enters a competitive space alongside other AI browsers like Perplexity’s Comet and Opera’s Neon, all of which integrate features that summarize content, fill forms, and draft code. The ChatGPT sidebar allows users to summarize sites, compare products, or analyze data seamlessly. In agent mode, Atlas empowers ChatGPT to perform tasks from researching to shopping. Currently, Atlas is available on macOS, with plans to roll out on Windows, iOS, and Android soon. OpenAI, led by Sam Altman, disrupted the tech landscape with ChatGPT’s debut in late 2022, and is now expanding its horizons. Meanwhile, Google has incorporated Gemini into Chrome, making the competition fiercer amid a landscape increasingly influenced by generative AI technologies.
