Jason Kwon, Chief Strategy Officer of OpenAI, is set to visit South Korea for the second time in two weeks to explore AI partnerships. This visit follows President Lee Jae-myung’s inauguration, during which he announced a 100 trillion-won investment initiative to position South Korea among the world’s top three AI powerhouses. During his previous visit, Kwon revealed OpenAI’s establishment of a Korean subsidiary and plans to open a new office in Seoul, marking its third in Asia after Tokyo and Singapore. South Korea is a key market for OpenAI, ranking in the top 10 for ChatGPT users globally and holding the second spot for paid subscribers, after the U.S. OpenAI has already collaborated with major Korean firms like Kakao Corp., Krafton Inc., and SK Telecom, and expects Kakao to announce project results later this year as it expands its AI infrastructure in the region.
