User Elias Judin discovered this feature shared on X, highlighting support within the Codex CLI tool and ChatGPT. In particular, Judin found directories named “pdfs” and “spreadsheets,” which house “skill.md” files containing tailored instructions for processing documents and data. This system essentially allows for specific prompts to tackle complex subtasks, such as extracting text from PDFs. The “skill.md” file for PDF handling includes detailed directions for reading and creating documents. This folder structure indicates that OpenAI is developing AI tools into app-like modules for targeted functionalities. Judin documented these findings while using the “5.2 pro” model and shared insights on GitHub. This modular approach gained attention after Anthropic implemented it for its Claude assistant, enhancing its ability to manage specialized tasks effectively.
