OpenAI Offers ChatGPT Discount to Christopher Yuan’s Nonprofit Organization

A California tech company, OpenAI, has agreed to provide a discount to theologian Christopher Yuan’s nonprofit, Holy Sexuality, following a federal lawsuit. Initially, OpenAI denied the organization a 20% discount on its ChatGPT subscription due to its religious nature, a policy that previously favored secular nonprofits. The Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) helped reach a settlement, prompting OpenAI to eliminate its discriminatory policy. ADF Senior Counsel Phil Sechler emphasized that religious individuals should not face unequal treatment. This isn’t the first legal action by Holy Sexuality; in February, they successfully contested Asana, Inc. over similar discount denial. Yuan expressed gratitude for the outcome, highlighting that religious freedom is foundational to democracy and should be upheld by corporations in California. This agreement underscores the commitment to equal treatment for all religions in a diverse society, reinforcing that anti-discrimination is a legal obligation.
