OpenAI Partners with Apple Supply Chain to Launch First ChatGPT-Enabled Device by 2027, Report Reveals

OpenAI has partnered with renowned designer Jony Ive following its acquisition of his AI startup, io, sparking speculation about new hardware devices. Reports suggest that OpenAI is actively recruiting top hardware talent from Apple, leading to concerns at the tech giant, which has canceled a crucial offsite meeting for its supply chain teams. OpenAI’s chief hardware officer, Tang Tan, assures potential hires of a collaborative work environment with less bureaucracy. The company plans to leverage Apple’s supply chain in China, with manufacturing support from Luxshare, a key Apple assembler, and is also in talks with Goertek for additional component supplies. OpenAI is developing various innovative products, including a smart speaker without a display, smart glasses, a digital voice recorder, and a wearable pin, with plans for a launch between late 2026 and early 2027. One prototype is reportedly pocket-sized, featuring context awareness and integration with OpenAI’s AI models.
