OpenAI has joined the FIDO Alliance to enhance passwordless authentication and establish secure digital identity frameworks for AI agents. This collaboration aims to ensure that AI systems act transparently, securely, and in line with user intent. After closing its Sora 2 video generator due to concerns over misuse, OpenAI is committed to developing trusted AI tools, such as its recent Operator feature. FIDO Alliance CEO Andrew Shikiar emphasizes that the rise of agentic AI necessitates new authentication methods and the integration of digital credentials, like passkeys. OpenAI’s participation on the Alliance’s Board of Directors highlights a growing market focus on aligning AI with robust authentication standards. Shikiar projects that the fusion of authentication and AI workflows will be a significant trend by 2026. The FIDO Alliance has also recently engaged with OpenID’s testing program to further these initiatives in digital identity.
