OpenAI has partnered with Tata Group to secure 100 megawatts of AI-ready data center capacity in India, with intentions to scale to 1 gigawatt. This collaboration, part of the Stargate project, aims to enhance OpenAI’s enterprise and infrastructure presence in a rapidly expanding market. OpenAI will be the first client of Tata Consultancy Services’ HyperVault, deploying ChatGPT Enterprise throughout Tata’s workforce and promoting standardized AI development via OpenAI’s tools.
The “OpenAI for India” initiative highlights the significant adoption of ChatGPT in the country, with over 100 million users. The local data center will facilitate the operation of advanced models while complying with data regulations, improving latency. Additionally, OpenAI plans to expand its certification programs in India and open new offices in Mumbai and Bengaluru. This strategic partnership signals a robust commitment to establishing AI infrastructure in India, enhancing enterprise collaboration and fostering AI skills development.
