OpenAI is launching the OpenAI Academy in Africa to enhance equitable access to artificial intelligence education and training. Announced by Emmanuel Lubanzadio, Africa Lead at OpenAI, the inaugural academy will take place at the University of Lagos under the theme “Equitable Partnerships and the Future of AI in Africa.” This program, part of OpenAI’s mission to democratize AI, emphasizes collaboration in research, policy discussions, and educational partnerships. The launch coincides with the University of Lagos International Week, highlighting global research collaboration. In addition, OpenAI’s ChatGPT Go, an affordable subscription powered by GPT-5, is being released across Africa at 75% lower pricing than higher tiers, making advanced AI tools more accessible. Lubanzadio, accompanied by professors from the university, reinforced OpenAI’s commitment to ensuring AI benefits reach diverse communities. The initiative marks a pivotal move in OpenAI’s strategy to foster education and accessibility in emerging AI markets across Africa.
