OpenAI Restores GPT-4o Following User Outcry Over New Model Issues

Following OpenAI’s recent rollout of the GPT-5 model, many users expressed a strong desire for the reinstatement of the GPT-4o model. Critics highlighted issues with GPT-5’s writing quality, with some even mourning the loss of GPT-4o, which many viewed as a trusted companion. Though OpenAI positions GPT-5 as its “smartest, fastest, most useful model yet,” users found it lacked the depth and warmth of its predecessor. The new “real-time router” feature optimizes responses based on question complexity, but initial feedback described GPT-5 as feeling “sterile” and “much worse.” In a response to user concerns, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman acknowledged the strong attachment to GPT-4o and announced that Plus subscribers would soon have the option to revert to the older model. While the return of GPT-4o is welcomed, Altman indicated that its future availability remains uncertain as OpenAI continues to enhance GPT-5’s performance.
