OpenAI has partnered with Cerebras Systems, a chip start-up backed by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, to utilize its processors for 750 megawatts of computing power. This multi-stage infrastructure development, projected to extend through 2028, will enhance OpenAI’s resources significantly. The agreement aims to make ChatGPT the fastest AI platform globally, unlocking new use cases and accommodating more users. Although specific terms were not disclosed, the deal is valued at over $10 billion. Cerebras’ focus on inference chips positions it as a competitor against AMD and Nvidia, aiming for quicker query responses. Beyond this collaboration, OpenAI is enhancing its arsenal with Nvidia-powered resources and exploring custom AI chip designs with Broadcom. Additionally, OpenAI plans to deploy 6 GW of computing power using AMD chips and is in discussions for Nvidia’s potential $100 billion investment for data center expansion, emphasizing its commitment to leveraging multiple providers for optimal AI performance.
